The year 2023 has been one filled with hope and renewal for Hong Kong. After enduring the challenges of a three-year pandemic, society is rising towards a brighter future. Throughout this year, we have witnessed God's grace and protection as we embraced challenges with unwavering faith and strong teamwork.
Despite the immense pressure from the fifth wave of the pandemic, our staff showed incredible resilience and dedication, working tirelessly to overcome difficulties and successfully navigate this challenging period. Along the way, we gained invaluable experiences that sparked innovative thinking and led to more flexible service models. These insights have established a solid foundation for future development, and with confidence, we look forward to the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
Achievements Review, Value Co-creation
Child care service
Yuen Long Rhenish Day Creche has gained the trust of parents through its professionalism and care. With a capacity for 64 children, it is in high demand and remains the top choice for families in the community. This year, the creche launched the "Chill Generation Expectant Mothers" program, which offers practical support to help expectant mothers welcome new life with confidence.
Children & Youth Service
The implementation of the "Pre-school Social Work Service" reflects our deep commitment to supporting pre-school children and their families. While some services have been taken over by the newly established service team, we have built a solid foundation over the past four and a half years, allowing more children and families to benefit.
The Choi Wan Rhenish Integrated Children & Youth Service Centre has undergone a complete rejuvenation and launched the "21st Century Youth Service Centre Program." This innovative project integrates youth-led initiatives and seamlessly combines online and offline experiences, providing a forward-looking service model for young people. It aims to help them develop resilience, which will support their mental well-being and strengthen their interpersonal relationships.
Counselling service
The Rhenish Grace & Joy Development Centre was officially launched this year, becoming an important self-financed project for us. With Christianity at its core, the center combines professional counseling services to actively promote growth and support for the church, schools, and the community.
Elderly Service
As the pandemic subsides, our elderly services have been revitalized. Three elderly homes have reopened for visits and resumed activities, allowing residents, families, and volunteers to gather once again and share joyful moments. The renovation project at Kwai Shing East Rhenish Care & Attention Home has been successfully completed, creating a more comfortable living environment for residents. Additionally, the services at all three elderly homes have steadily expanded, with a significant increase in membership and the introduction of innovative activities that cater to different age groups.
Collaboration between social service, church and school
The "Career Navigation Scheme" has officially launched, drawing high school students from both the church and local schools to participate. Through summer internships, students will gain insight into the operation of social services and develop a foundational understanding of social contributions. The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from the students have generated increased momentum for future collaborations.
Human resources and Financial stability
To tackle the issue of workforce attrition, we have introduced the "Employee Compensation and Benefits Adjustment" policy. This policy significantly enhances employee benefits by adding features such as birthday leave and long service leave. Our goal is to retain talent and attract exceptional professionals to our team. Additionally, we have implemented the "Employee Recognition Program" to express our gratitude to employees for their outstanding performance, fostering a more cohesive workplace.
In terms of finances, 2023 has been a year of stable development. We have further optimized resource allocation through actuarial services, providing strong financial support for self-financing service projects.
Looking ahead, Striving for excellence
In 2024, our organization will reach an important milestone as we celebrate 60 years of providing social services. This historic year will be a time for us to reflect on God's grace and also to look forward with a renewed vision for the future. We recognize the challenges that Hong Kong faces, including an aging population, increasing mental health needs, and changes in the social structure. However, we are confident in our ability to address these challenges by adopting more flexible and innovative service strategies to create a greater social impact.
We plan to establish a daycare center for the elderly at the Chinese Rhenish Church in Wan Chai to meet community needs and encourage more church members to participate in this service. Additionally, we will continue to focus on the mental health of individuals in society, helping them build stronger resilience and maintain harmony among one another.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to is purpose.” Romans 8:28
Let us continue to move forward together in faith, guided by God, as we work to bring positive change and blessings to society.
