Congratulation Message
60th Anniversary of the Social Service Department of The Chinese Rhenish Church Hong Kong Synod
孫志成長老 Chairman of the Board of Social Service Department
We express our profound gratitude to our Heavenly Father for His guidance and blessings as the Social Services Department (SSD) of the Chinese Rhenish Church Hong Kong Synod (CRCHKS) marks its 60th anniversary of dedicated service. In alignment with our mission to "practice faith and serve the community with Christ's love," the department has steadfastly committed to providing holistic care and has made significant contributions to society through each service rendered. On this momentous occasion, I extend my sincere congratulations and heartfelt appreciation to colleagues and partners whose unwavering efforts have been instrumental in this journey.
Since its establishment in 1964, the SSD has remained unwavering in its commitment to its mission of serving children, youth, and the elderly. In response to societal changes and the evolving needs of the community, the SSD has consistently broadened its array of services. From the initial establishment of childcare services to the present-day diverse offerings that support not only the elderly and youth but also their caregivers, each service is a testament to our dedication to the community and our profound respect for all individuals.
In the 1960s, as Hong Kong's economy experienced significant growth, the SSD promptly addressed the emerging social needs by introducing childcare services. This initiative provided parents with the opportunity to work. Our dedicated staff, exhibiting unwavering love and patience, guided children through their developmental journeys, nurturing the seeds of love and faith. In 1970, the SSD took a pivotal step by establishing Hong Kong’s first formal elderly home, signifying the commencement of a long-term commitment to the elderly population. Our team, inspired by Christ's love, not only attends to the physical needs of the elderly but also provides companionship and support, fostering their spiritual well-being.
In recent years, the Social Services Division (SSD) has significantly advanced innovative developments in youth services by incorporating design thinking methodologies. This approach has inspired young individuals to become proactive "change makers" and has fostered their active engagement in the creation of a better society. In the realm of residential services, support for caregivers has been notably enhanced, providing them with practical assistance to alleviate the considerable pressures of daily life. A variety of physical, mental, and spiritual activities have been organized to promote holistic well-being among individuals. Furthermore, the Rhenish Grace & Joy Development Centre has embarked on a new developmental trajectory. It has strengthened its collaboration with our churches and the Education Department, embodying the principles of the "One Rhenish Family." This collaborative effort also aims to comprehensively integrate counseling services within the community, thereby enhancing overall support systems.
In July of last year, the SSD proudly welcomed a new Chief Officer, who is now leading the team in responding to the evolving societal demands and achieving significant advancements in a complex landscape. We are confident that Heavenly Father will continue to provide guidance to the SSD, empowering us to approach each opportunity with faith and discernment. Together, we look forward to crafting the next chapter of the CRCHKS, imbued with love and brilliance!
